Character: a forgiving motorcycle for learning clutch control
The four-stroke engine is tuned for strong torque at low revs and has a lot of rotating mass. This makes the CRF125F forgiving and easy to ride, and creates good conditions for learning to operate the clutch.
These characteristics quickly build confidence. Young riders can concentrate on posture and controls and therefore learn faster than on an aggressive motorcycle.
Engine, gearbox and starter
The air-cooled 124.9 cc four-stroke engine with overhead camshaft (SOHC) is combined with a four-speed gearbox with clutch. Honda describes the gearbox as robust, smooth and easy to operate.
Starting is electric, by pressing a button, and a kick-starter is available as a back-up. This spares young riders from kick-starting without having to do without the back-up.
Chassis, wheels and Big Wheel version
The bridge-type frame is made of steel, the airbox and battery are mounted lengthways, and robust bodywork protects the components. At the front is a 31 mm telescopic fork, at the rear a shock absorber with a 32 mm piston diameter and separate chambers for air, oil and gas.
The CRF125F is available with a 17-inch front wheel and 14-inch rear wheel, or as the Big Wheel with larger wheels: 19-inch front and 16-inch rear. Braking is by a hydraulic 220 mm disc with an adjustable lever at the front and a 95 mm drum at the rear.
Who is the Honda CRF125F suitable for?
The CRF125F suits children from around 10 years and beginners who want to learn clutch control. Anyone who started on a CRF50F or CRF110F will find the next step here; for competition, the CRF150R comes after that.
When choosing between the standard version and the Big Wheel, a sitting test helps: when stopping, your child should be able to put both feet on the ground securely.

Frequently asked questions about the Honda CRF125F
What age is the Honda CRF125F suitable from?
Honda specifies young riders from around 10 years of age. Height and experience matter as well as age; anyone who has already ridden a CRF50F or CRF110F will find it easier to get started.
Does the CRF125F have a clutch?
Yes. The CRF125F has a manual four-speed gearbox with a clutch lever. This makes the model suitable for learning clutch control after the semi-automatic CRF50F or CRF110F.

The Big Wheel version has larger wheels: a 19-inch front wheel and a 16-inch rear wheel instead of 17 and 14 inches on the standard version.
How is the CRF125F started?
Electrically, by pressing a button. If needed, a kick-starter is also available as a back-up.
