Which Honda models you can rent

The motorcycle rental range extends from the nimble city scooter to the touring motorcycle for long stages. For the city, the Honda scooters SH Mode 125 and Vision 110 are available, plus the ADV350 and X-ADV with more displacement and the look of an adventure bike. For electric riding, there is the WN7.

Among the 125cc motorcycles, you can choose between the CB125F, CB125R, Grom MSX125 and Dax ST125. More power is offered by the naked bikes CB650R E-Clutch, CB750 Hornet and CB1000 Hornet SP, the supersport bike CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP and the cruisers Rebel 500 and Rebel 1100 Touring.

For touring with detours onto gravel, the NX500, CRF300 Rally and Transalp XL750 are suitable, as are the two Africa Twin models, CRF1100L and Adventure Sports, each with dual clutch transmission (DCT). Designed entirely for comfort are the NT1100 DCT and the Gold Wing (GL1800) DCT.

Driving licence: who may ride which rental motorcycle?

What counts is the category in your driving licence. With A1, you may ride vehicles up to 125 cc and 11 kW from the age of 16, i.e. the four light motorcycles as well as the SH Mode 125 and Vision 110. If you are under 18, you also need the signature of a parent or legal guardian.

Restricted category A, known as A2 in the EU, applies from the age of 18 to motorcycles up to 35 kW. Suitable examples are the ADV350, NX500, CRF300 Rally and Rebel 500. You will find further models in the A2 motorcycle overview.

The Gold Wing, Africa Twin or Fireblade require category A. According to the dealer, you only obtain this after two years with restricted A and a test; direct access is not possible. A valid learner's permit for the appropriate category is also accepted.

Rental terms: kilometres, insurance and deposit

Each rental day includes 320 kilometres and fully comprehensive insurance. Additional kilometres are charged separately, and kilometres not ridden are forfeited. The rental period starts at one hour, and a weekend counts as two rental days.

You pay the rental price in advance and also leave a cash deposit when you collect the vehicle. In the event of damage, an excess applies. You receive the vehicle with a full tank and return it with a full tank, and you pay for the fuel yourself. If it is very dirty on return, cleaning is charged in addition.

An advantage for anyone who later buys a new motorcycle: up to two rental days are credited towards the purchase price.

Helmet and motorcycle clothing for rent

If you do not have your own gear, you can rent a jacket, trousers, gloves and helmet as a complete set or individually. A separate deposit is required for the rental gear.

For hygiene reasons, the following applies to every helmet rental: balaclava mandatory – bring your own or CHF 25.–. So you either bring your own or buy one on site. If you ride regularly, you can also buy your own motorcycle helmet from the dealer and try it on at your leisure beforehand.

Rental or test ride: which suits your plans?

A test ride lasts about 15 to 25 minutes and helps you decide on a purchase. The fee is credited in full if you buy within six months. Rental, by contrast, is charged per day, includes 320 kilometres and is intended for outings, tours and holidays.

If you have already decided on a model, the test ride is the direct route. For financing, the dealer offers motorcycle leasing, and if you are looking for a pre-owned vehicle, you will also find used motorcycles there.

Reservation and collection in Zurich

For motorcycle rental, you reserve via the dealer's online form. The reservation only becomes binding once Honda Motorrad Zürich has confirmed it. Collection and return take place at the Zurich location during business hours.

No driving licence yet? At the MX-Academy, you can learn to ride a motorcycle on closed-off grounds, and no driving licence is needed for this. Before a longer tour, motorcycle safety training is also worthwhile, which likewise takes place away from public roads.

Frequently asked questions: Motorcycle rental

Which driving licence do I need for a rental motorcycle?

That depends on the model. With A1, you can ride scooters and motorcycles up to 125 cc and 11 kW from the age of 16, and with restricted A, models up to 35 kW from the age of 18. The large models require category A. A valid learner's permit for the appropriate category is also accepted.

How many kilometres are included in the rental?

Each rental day includes 320 kilometres. Extra kilometres are charged in addition, and unused kilometres are not refunded. Every rental includes fully comprehensive insurance, and an excess applies in the event of damage.

Can I rent a helmet and motorcycle clothing as well?

Yes. Anyone who wants to rent a motorcycle can add a jacket, trousers, gloves and helmet as a set or individually. Every rental helmet comes with a balaclava: you bring your own or buy one on site. You leave a separate deposit for the gear.

What is the difference between motorcycle rental and a test ride?

The test ride is a short trial ride of about 15 to 25 minutes before a purchase. Motorcycle rental is intended for outings and holidays, is charged per day and includes 320 kilometres daily.

Can I also rent a scooter?

Yes. You can choose from the SH Mode 125 and Vision 110 for the city, as well as the ADV350 and X-ADV with more displacement. Subcategory A1 is sufficient for the SH Mode 125 and Vision 110. You pay the rental price in advance and leave the deposit when you collect the vehicle in Zurich.
