Character and use in the MX2 class
The CRF250R is built for motocross racing, where corners have to be taken at high speed with stability and control. Being a competition bike for track and terrain, the model has no road registration.
For getting into motocross, a 250cc is usually a better choice than a 450cc, even for riders with plenty of road experience. The smaller moving mass in the engine makes the motorcycle easier to handle off-road.

The 250's engine and rider aids
The DOHC engine gets more air through an improved intake and breathes out through a straight exhaust path. According to Honda, this improves response, acceleration and power in the mid to upper rev range. A redesigned crankshaft lets the engine rev up faster.
Three electronic aids are available: HSTC traction control with three levels that can be switched off, a three-position riding mode switch (EMSB) and HRC Launch Control. The latter works at 8000 rpm for mud, 8500 rpm as the standard setting on a dry track and 9500 rpm for experienced riders.
Suspension, tank and ergonomics
At the front is a redesigned Showa upside-down fork with a diameter of 49 mm. The front brake calliper is a two-piston calliper to HRC specification. The titanium tank holds 6.3 litres.
The bodywork is shaped so that body weight can be shifted more easily. The radiator shrouds give the knees more room to move.
Variants: HRC Works Edition and enduro version
The CRF250R HRC Works Edition, also called the RWE, has a Yoshimura R&D exhaust, a TwinAir air filter, a hand-finished intake port and its own ECU settings. It also gets a hydraulic clutch, improved suspension coatings and a Dunlop MX33 rear tyre.
For enduro there is the CRF250RX with 21/19-inch wheels, an 8-litre tank, handguards and a side stand.
