Compact and sporty: the Honda Grom as a 125cc motorcycle

The Honda Grom MSX125 is an ultra-compact motorcycle with a distinctive look. Since 2013 it has appealed above all to young riders. Suspension and brakes are modelled on larger motorcycles, while the air-cooled engine remains economical.

  • 11.1 Nm at 6000 rpm

  • Seat height 761 mm, tank 6 l
  • Consumption 1.5 l/100 km (Honda)

Character and use of the Grom

The Grom is made for brisk journeys through the city. With a seat height of 761 mm it is low, and its compact dimensions make parking easier.

Unlike a scooter, the Grom has a manual gearbox: five gears and a clutch lever. This way you learn on a handy vehicle what you will later need on larger motorcycles too. The bodywork panels can be customised.

Engine and gearbox

The air-cooled 124 cc single-cylinder with fuel injection produces 7.4 kW. Its maximum torque of 11.1 Nm is reached at 6000 rpm. The top speed is 94 km/h.

Honda states a fuel consumption of 1.5 litres per 100 km and CO2 emissions of 34 g per kilometre. The tank holds 6 litres.

Chassis, brakes and cockpit of the Honda Grom

The basis is a steel mono-backbone frame. At the front there is a 31 mm upside-down fork. Braking is by disc brakes, with a two-piston calliper at the front and a single-piston calliper at the rear, supported by ABS with IMU control.

The wheels have five spokes, and the headlight is LED. The LCD display shows engine speed, selected gear, road speed, two trip meters, fuel gauge and clock.

Driving licence and target group

For the Grom you only need subcategory A1, i.e. a driving licence for motorcycles with a maximum of 125 cc and 11 kW. You may equally ride the Grom if you hold category A or restricted category A, the latter known as A2 in the EU.

The Grom suits young riders who are looking for a genuine manual-gearbox motorcycle in a small format, and anyone who wants a nimble second vehicle for the city.
