For the CBR500R, Honda explicitly refers to HRC's racing experience. The engine management is tuned for strong acceleration.

Engine, chassis and electronics

The twin-cylinder delivers 35 kW and 43 Nm. Honda has tuned the engine management with adapted ignition timing for torque in the low and mid-range, and shifting is done through a six-speed gearbox.

The front wheel is guided by a 41 mm Showa SFF-BP of upside-down design, and it is braked by two discs with radially mounted calipers. On wet as well as dry roads, the HSTC traction control regulates traction at the rear wheel.

A 5-inch colour TFT display with anti-glare effect and Honda RoadSync connect your smartphone to the motorcycle. Operation is via a 4-way switch on the left handlebar grip.

Variants with and without Honda E-Clutch

The Honda CBR500R is listed with clutch lever for the 2024 model year and with Honda E-Clutch for the 2026 model year. Both produce 35 kW.

Pulling away, shifting and stopping are handled by the E-Clutch, leaving you with just the gear lever. You switch the system on in the TFT display, and the lever is still there whenever you want to clutch manually.

Who is the CBR500R for?

For new riders, the CBR500R combines the look of a supersport bike with power that suits category A restricted. Experienced riders looking for a manageable sports bike with a twin-cylinder engine will also find what they want here.

If you prefer to ride without a fairing, the CB500 Hornet is a naked bike with the same displacement and the same power. For city traffic, the variant with Honda E-Clutch is recommended.

Frequently asked questions about the Honda CBR500R

Is the Honda CBR500R suitable for category A restricted?

Yes. Both listed variants produce 35 kW, which keeps them within the category A restricted limit. This is true of the clutch-lever version and of the Honda E-Clutch variant alike.

What is the difference between the CBR500R and the CB500 Hornet?

Both have 471 cc, 35 kW, a top speed of 176 km/h and a 17.1-litre tank. The CBR500R is faired and styled with winglets in Fireblade style, whereas the CB500 Hornet is an unfaired naked bike in streetfighter style.

What does the E-Clutch bring on the CBR500R?

You change gear with your foot alone, and pulling away and stopping work without the clutch lever. According to Honda, stalling the engine is not possible, which is particularly pleasant in city traffic.

Which brakes and suspension does the CBR500R have?

At the front, two brake discs with radially mounted calipers and an upside-down fork, the Showa SFF-BP with 41 mm, do the work. In addition, HSTC traction control keeps the rear wheel in check on wet or dry surfaces.
