Engine: 502 cc inline four-cylinder
The liquid-cooled inline four-cylinder has 502 cc, two overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder. Bore and stroke measure 60 x 44.4 mm, and the compression ratio is 12.3:1. The engine reaches its maximum torque of 46.3 Nm at 10,500 rpm.
The cylinders have a nickel silicon carbide coating, so conventional cylinder liners are not needed. DLC-coated valve lifters, a downdraft intake with ram-air ducts and a 4-into-2-into-1 exhaust system are also part of the concept. Honda quotes a top speed of 210 km/h and a consumption of 4.5 l/100 km.

Honda E-Clutch and electronics
The Honda E-Clutch automatically operates the clutch when pulling away and when changing gear in the six-speed gearbox. You can still pull the lever on the handlebar yourself at any time. The wet multi-plate clutch has an anti-hopping function.
The ride-by-wire throttle allows five riding modes: Standard, Sport, Urban and two user modes in which power, torque control and engine braking can be set. HSTC traction control, wheelie control, the ESS emergency stop signal and two-channel ABS complete the equipment.
The cockpit features a 5-inch colour TFT display with three display styles. Via Honda RoadSync, you pair your smartphone over Bluetooth for calls, navigation, messages and music, and there is a USB-C socket under the instrument panel.
Chassis, ergonomics and design
The steel twin-tube diamond frame uses the engine as a stressed member. At the front there is a 41 mm KYB upside-down fork, at the rear a cast aluminium swingarm with Pro-Link suspension. Two 296 mm discs with radially mounted Nissin two-piston callipers brake the front wheel, and the Pirelli tyres are sized 120/70 ZR17 and 160/60 ZR17.
The seat height is 780 mm, the wheelbase 1408 mm, and the tank holds 14 litres. Honda states an unladen weight of 189 kg. A narrow subframe and the shaped tank area are intended to make it easier to put your feet down.
The full fairing with LED indicators integrated into the headlight, the steeply rising tail and milled details define its appearance. It is available in Ignition Red and Matte Ballistic Black Metallic.
Who is the CBR500R FOUR for?
Despite the similar name, these are two separate models: the CBR500R uses a twin-cylinder engine, the Honda CBR500R FOUR a newly developed inline four-cylinder whose peak torque only arrives at 10,500 rpm.
The FOUR appeals to riders looking for a sporty yet everyday-friendly mid-range sports bike with four cylinders. The forward-leaning riding position with sporty clip-on handlebars shows where things are heading, and the E-Clutch makes stop-and-go in city traffic easier.
